When following today’s news, we get overwhelmed by bad news about climate change. And guys it’s true! All of us should rethink and change some behavior patterns. No worries, that does not immediately mean to completely stop consuming and saying no to everything. However, we want to show you that some things are so easy but still so meaningful to change. You will easily start living a sustainable lifestyle. For example your consumption of plastic bottles.

Every year about 35 billion plastic bottles end up on landfills or in the ocean and whole ecosystems suffer

There is more plastic than plankton in our oceans so fish mix up plankton with little plastic pieces for food, they eat plastic and starve to death.

  • Corrals are the living environment for animals – but corrals simply die because of all the plastic contaminating their biosphere.
  • There is a patch of plastic floating off the coast of California which is the largest ocean garbage site in the world. This floating mass of plastic is twice the size of Texas.

We could give you so much more examples but let’s focus on a huge offender:

For us people in the west, it is normal to fill up water at the end of the world, pack it into plastic bottles and ship it one time around the globe to where we need a refreshing and cool looking sip of water. Is this a sustainable lifestyle? Definitely not. Did you know that for the production of one plastic bottle three liters of water is needed? After you finished your plastic bottle you simply throw it away. But they can get recycled, right? Here in Germany, this is mostly true but in reality, only every tenth plastic bottle gets recycled.

We do not want to tell you what to do, but honestly, at this point, we want you to start living a more sustainable lifestyle and stop using plastic bottles – at least in Western countries where the tap water is of highest drinking quality.  Three facts that might make you rethink your next purchase of bottled water:

  • Only 1 in 10 plastic bottles are recycled.
  • Meaning, most PET bottles are single used plastic. They are only used ONCE and last on the planet for up to a 1000 years.
  • A lot of water is bottled by big global players known for very unsustainable behavior, e.g. Nestlé.

How a glass bottle contributes to a sustainable lifestyle

You not only reduce the amount of plastic waste on our planet but you will even save a lot of money when you never have to buy plastic bottles again AND it also looks good to have your own bottle. Together with the great company Soulbottles, we have designed our own hejhej-bottle. We are fans of these bottles since the very first day. This is why we are even more happy to now have our own super pretty version. hejhej – a little touch of Sweden on high-quality glass. The hejhej-bottles are convenient to carry and to drink out of – we are sure that you will instantly drink more water than before, which is also part of a sustainable lifestyle because your health is part of sustainability as well. Our glass bottle makes it easy to stop buying single-serve bottled water.

Buy your own hejhej bottle here – 1€ of each bottle goes to Viva con Agua and to drinking water projects. So basically all of you can start with banning plastic bottles out of your life – we will guarantee you a more sustainable lifestyle where you contribute to the reduction of plastic waste.
