Where does the name hejhej-mats come from?
Hej hej means hello in Swedish. Since we had the idea for our sustainable yoga mats in Sweden and the product development started there, we wanted to express our close connection to Sweden in our brand name. By saying “hej hej” we want to welcome the leftovers from the production into their new product life.
How do we deal with the current changes regarding the German sales taxes (“Mehrwertsteuer“)?
We want to let you know how we deal with the current changes in the German sales tax system. We will lower the taxes as every company here in Germany is obliged to do. This means that our products will be sold with 16% instead of 19% taxes from the first of July until the 31st of December 2020. However, will keep the sales price of our products the same. So our yoga mats, for instance, will keep the price of 129€ and the new hejhej-bundle of our mat and strap will cost 158€.
We decided to do this to stay fair to all the consumers who bought our products before and will buy the product after this period. We want everyone to buy a hejhej-product when she or he really needs one, not when there is a cheaper offer. Reduced prices automatically encourage us to buy more and to buy without reflecting – that’s not what hejhej wants to promote.
Our goal is to promote a more conscious buying behavior where products are only bought when there is a real need and where social and environmentally friendly products are chosen. We are also constantly striving to enlarge the impact we have on our planet. Donating money to increase this impact is already part of our business model. For each yoga mat, we are donating 1€ to the NGO EarthChild Project and for each bag and strap, we are planting a tree. With your help, we could already make quite a difference. You can find all the detailed numbers in our first impact report.
Yet, we are always searching for possibilities to create an even bigger impact. We use the current changes in the tax system as such a possibility and will donate the gained difference in our revenue to our partner initiatives (EarthChild Project and Plant for the planet). So from now on (1st of July) until the 31st of December 2020, we will donate 2,52% of our gross revenue – of course, in addition to the donations we are doing anyway. Half of the money will go to EarthChild Project and the other half to Plant for the Planet. We will certainly keep you updated and report transparently about our donations and are looking forward to raising money for these wonderful initiatives.
How long/wide/thick is a hejhej-mat?
So far there is one standard size: 186 cm long, 65 cm wide and 0.5 cm thick. A hejhej-mat weighs approximately 2 kg. With this measure we have found good the golden middle: the mat is very comfortable and yet not too heavy to carry with you in everyday life. Further mat variations are planned for the future, e.g. a particularly thin travel mat and an extra-large and thick comfort mat.
The mat is made from recycled materials, are these harmless to my health and do I actually do yoga on old yogurt cups?
Our yoga mats are made from offcuts that arise in the foaming industry. This type of waste is called pre-consumer waste. This means, the materials have never been in touch with any consumer so far and are just leftovers from the production. Therefore, the quality of these recycled materials is still perfect. The recycled foam also has certificates such as REACH. In order to avoid any doubts and to be really completely safe, we deliberately decided to use a virgin material as the surface. This material is medically compliant and is otherwise used for hospital products. Our yoga mats are therefore completely harmless to health.
Can I test a hejhej-mat somewhere live?
You can buy your hejhej-mat offline in some places. Here you can find our offline retailers. You can test our hejhej-mats at one of our partner studios. If you would like to work with us or know a great partner near you, please send us an email.
If you order a hejhej-mat, you cannot test it for hygienic reasons. You can roll out the mat, have a closer look at it and feel the material and surface. For hygienic reasons it is not possible to practice yoga on it. If the mat is to be sent back, it must be in its original condition, unused and in the original box.
How is the surface of the mat?
The surface is structured. This gives you extra grip and slip-resistance, both on the floor and on your hands and feet. We deliberately chose a closed surface structure for hejhej-mats, as this prevents liquids (sweat) from penetrating the mat. This way, your mat stays hygienic and its lifespan is extended.
Does the mat have a good grip?
Slip-resistance was one of the most important criteria during our product development. Together with yoga teachers, we have optimized and improved a lot. The final model was also tested by various teachers and everyone was enthusiastic about it. The feedback we have received from customers so far is also extremely good. Due to the closed surface (see previous point), we recommend using a yoga towel for extremely sweaty yoga sessions.
Does the hejhej-mat XL fit in the hejhej-bag?
Yes, the hejhej-mat XL fits into the hejhej-bag just like the regular hejhej-mats. Most yoga mats from other manufacturers also fit in the hejhej-bag.
Why should I avoid sunlight on my hejhej-mat?
We purposely decided not to use chemical sun blockers in our yoga mats because they are harmful to the environment and people. Unfortunately, this means that our mats tend to be a little sensitive to sunlight. The rather light hejhej-mat, in particular, can change color after some time in the sun. This has no influence on the quality or function but if you already have the intention to often practice yoga outside, we would recommend you order the rather dark hejhej-mat – then you are on the safe side. It is best to store your rather light hejhej-mat in a place protected from light, for example in your hejhej-bag.
Do you ship internationally?
We ship our hejhej-equipment across Europe. If you cannot select your preferred country in the ordering process, simply write us a short email and we will take care of your request.
I think the shipping costs for the delivery are quite high – how do you calculate those and why do I have to pay them?
We have decided to list the shipping costs that we have to pay transparently and not to add them to the product price. Since we are still a small company, we do not get any particularly favorable conditions with DHL and pay, for example, € 13.65 for shipping the mat to Austria. In addition, there are costs for cardboard, adhesive tape, shipping labels, etc. So that our shipping costs really only cover what we incur in terms of costs.
How long does it take for my mat to arrive at my home?
You can find our shipping information here. If you have selected payment in advanced as the payment method, we can only send your package as soon as we have received your money.
Why does the delivery time of the hejhej-product vary?
Our closed-loop hejhej products are all 100% made in Germany. We have different partners for this and our hejhej-bag, for example, is completely manufactured in a workplace for people with disabilities. It can, therefore, happen that one hejhej product has a slightly longer delivery time (e.g. 14 or 30 working days). The current delivery time is always shown on the product page of the respective product. You will also receive the current delivery time after ordering in your order confirmation mail. So it’s best to always check the delivery time in your order confirmation mail.
How do I care for my hejhej-mat?
Here you can find our caring instructions.
Can I return my hejhej-mat and how do I do it?
Yes, you can return your hejhej-mat to us. Here’s everything you need to know if you want to return your product.
Can I also give away a hejhej voucher?
We think a hejhej-mat a very special and sustainable gift. You can purchase a gift card here and choose between different amounts. You will then receive the voucher code immediately by email. Alternatively, you can also directly enter the email address of the lucky person being gifted.
Do you plan to launch further products?
Yes! We already have a few new hejhej family members. Among other things, the hejhej-bag and the hejhej-strap. And we are happy to announce that we plan to grow the family even further! So stay tuned, we will inform you as soon as we launch new, sustainable yoga products.
Can I support you somehow or are you looking for employees?
We are open to any suggestions. Feel free to write us an email.
What can I do with my old yoga mat that is not a hejhej-mat?
Unfortunately, we cannot yet recycle old yoga mats from other manufacturers. Before you buy a new product, always consider whether your current product is still working. The most sustainable thing you can do is to use your products for as long as possible. However, it is always possible to give your old yoga mats a purpose as soon as they no longer meet your requirements. We made very good experiences donating mats to homeless shelters or children’s initiatives.
