Why the name hejhej-mats?
Hej hej means hello in Swedish. Since we had the idea for our sustainable yoga mats in Sweden and started the whole product development there, we wanted to express our close connection to Sweden in our brand name. With hej hej we would like to welcome the recycled materials into their new product life.
How long / wide / thick is a hejhej-mat?
There is currently a standard size: 186 cm long 65 cm wide and 0.5 cm thick. A hejhej-mat weighs about 2 kg. With this measure, we have found a good mediocrity: the mat is very comfortable and yet not too heavy to carry with you in everyday life. Further mat variations are planned for the future, e.g. a particularly thin travel mat and an extra large and thick comfort mat.
The mat is made of recycled materials, is that harmless to health or do I do yoga on old yogurt cups?
Our yoga mats are made of foam cut remnants. These are pre-consumer waste, materials that have never been to the consumer and are left over from production. Therefore, these recycled materials are still qualitatively perfect. The recycled foam also has certificates like REACH. To avoid any doubt and to be completely safe, we consciously use virgin material as a surface. This material is medically compliant and is otherwise used for hospital products. Our yoga mats are therefore completely harmless to health.
Can I test a hejhej-mat somewhere?
You can buy your hejhej-mat in some offline places. Here is an overview. You can test our hejhej-mats at one of our partner studios. If you would like to work with us or know a great partner in your area, please send us an email.
Can I test a hejhej-mat at home?
Unfortunately, if you order a hejhej-mat, you can not test it for hygienic reasons. You can roll out the mat, inspect it and feel the material and the surface. For reasons of hygiene, however, it is not possible to practice yoga on it. If the mat is to be returned, it must be in its original condition, unused and in its original box.
How is the surface of the mat?
The surface is provided with a structure. This gives you extra grip and slip resistant, both on the floor and on your hands and feet. We have deliberately chosen a closed surface structure for hejhej-mats, because no liquids (sweat) can penetrate into the mat. Your mat stays hygienic and its life is extended.
Is the mat non-slippy?
Slip resistance was one of the most important criteria during our product development. Together with yoga teachers we have optimized and improved a lot. Additionally, the final model was tested by different teachers and all were thoroughly enthusiastic. The feedback that we have received from customers about this is also extremely good. Due to the closed surface (see previous point) we recommend using a yoga towel for extremely sweaty yoga sessions.

What do I do with my old yoga mat that is not a hejhej-mat?
Unfortunately, we can not recycle old yoga mats from other manufacturers yet. Before you buy a new product, always weigh whether your current product is still working. The most sustainable thing you can do is use your products for as long as possible. However, it is always possible to give meaningful benefits to your old yoga mats as soon as they no longer meet your requirements. We have had very good experiences with donating mats to homeless shelters or children’s initiatives.
